Leah Browne-Freeman, LPC Associate

Supervised by Nakia Roberson, M.Ed, LPC-S, CST.

Welcome!! I’m Leah Browne-Freeman, LPC Associate (Supervised by Nakia Roberson, M.Ed, LPC-S, CST). I help adults navigating anxiety and depression, unresolved trauma, and relationship challenges build lasting inner strength and meaningful connection. I have been an associate since 2023.

Professional Experience

My background in nursing and healthcare has shaped the way I approach therapy - with strong clinical insight, calm presence in high-stress situations, and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience.

I have been a registered nurse since 2013, with experience in medical-surgical, school nursing, and emergency room settings. The majority of my career has been spent in the emergency room, where I worked with diverse populations and a wide range of medical and mental health presentations.

This fast-paced environment strengthened my ability to stay grounded under pressure, collaborate within interdisciplinary teams, and provide compassionate care during moments of crisis and uncertainty.

Since 2019, I have worked as a nurse practitioner in outpatient settings, managing acute health concerns and providing comprehensive patient care through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. This role has further strengthened my holistic approach to care and my ability to consider both physical and emotional factors when supporting individuals.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing (2013).
  • Master’s Degree in Science with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Woman’s University (2019).
  • Master’s Degree in Science with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of Houston Victoria (2023).

Counseling Experience & Interests

  • I have been working as an LPC associate in private practice since 2023.
  • Interested in a wide range of topics and diagnoses: depression, anxiety, self-esteem & self-image, self-care, burnout, trauma, job transitions, and PTSD.
  • Enjoy working with people from all walks of life, especially first responders and healthcare workers, including those who may feel burnt out and overlooked by the healthcare system.

Hobbies & Fun Facts about Me

  • I was born and raised in Houston (my husband is also!).
  • I have 2 miniature dachshunds named Ted and Maxine.
  • I read 22 books in the year of 2025 on my Kindle.
  • I enjoy gardening and am a plant mom.

I have been working in healthcare since 2013 as a registered nurse and family nurse practitioner, with the majority of my experience rooted in emergency room care. This background has shaped my ability to remain calm in high-stress situations, listen deeply, and meet people where they are without judgment. In therapy, I strive to provide a welcoming, unbiased, and safe space where you can simply be – while feeling heard, supported, and respected. We take life one step at a time, one day at a time.

I earned my first master’s degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2019 from Texas Woman’s University in Houston and worked in an outpatient clinic within a large hospital organization, managing acute and chronic concerns. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt called to deepen my work in mental and emotional healing. This led me to return to school in 2021, and in 2023 I completed my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Houston – Victoria.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative and strengths-based. I draw from several evidence-based modalities, primarily solution-focused therapy, reality/choice therapy, and positive psychology. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as of March 2024 and offer ART sessions both in person and virtually.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy cooking and creating new vegetarian and vegan recipes with my husband, thrifting, spending time with my dogs, playing on my Nintendo Switch, being outdoors, and embracing quiet, cozy time at home.

What I do: I provide both in-person and virtual counseling.
